on my desk

I transported my office duties to Gills Diner today. On my desk/cafe table is

1. My beloved Frankie magazine.
2. My favourite Gills Diner sandwich.
Goats curd, beetroot & onion jam $8.00

* note, the napkin at Gills Diner was thin which is a contradiction to my restaurant-quality-napkin beliefs.

six unimportant things about me

There has been some tagging going on for six unimportant things about oneself and I thought I would share some of my unimportant yet intriguing facts with you.

1. I am no good at whistling, Frank on the other hand can whistle with amazing precision. Last year I really wanted to release Frank's Whistling Christmas Carols. Stay tuned!

2. I've never travelled outside of Australia.

3. I once worked in a call centre for three months.

4. I was named after my Father's ex-girlfriend.

5. I always determine a cafe/restaurants quality by the thickens of their napkin.

6. I always have trouble spelling restaurant.

banana juice

I ♥ clever packaging!

this is... my favourite book

I'm not a big fiction reader, my bookshelf says it all. It is crammed with books on sewing, japanese craft, illustration, design and software with a handful of biographicals and ofcourse there is the self help section.

One of my personal favourites from the bookshelf is my little Japanese book showcasing the illustrative work of Naitou Rune. Rune began his illustration work for female comic magazines in the 60's. I absolutely love his illustrations and I often pick up my little book to flick through atleast once a month for a good dose of visual inspiration.

Thank you Dees for your bookish suggestion this week. For next week I would like to ask a new blogger to the blog block Hip Hop and Banana Bread. Pop by and say hello!

I would like to suggest that for a one off next Sunday that as well as our 'This is' post we also show a Flashback Friday picture of ourselves pre-1985.

the year 2000

I was having a dinner conversation with friends last night about the rapid advancements of technology and I remembered some 'great predications' published in the Good Weekend January 1st 2000.

I purposely purchased and kept the Good Weekend from 01/01/2000 as I thought "OOoohh, one day this magazine could be worth something". And if anything else it would good to share with the grand-kiddies.

So here are some of the great predications worth a mention:

"Everything that can be invented has been invented."
Charles Duell, director, US Patents Office, 1899

"A rocket will never be able to leave the earth's atmosphere"
The New York Times, 1936

"I think there is a world market for maybe five computers".
Thomas Watson, IBM president, 1943

"Television won't last because people will get tired of staring at a plywood box every night".
Darryl Zanuck, 20th Century Fox co-founder, 1946

"There is no need for any individual to have a computer in their home".
Ken Olsen, president of Digital Equipment Corporation, 1977

a bag of goodness

Brooke can do wonders with a sewing machine and a vintage apron! After finding myself a cute apron at the local op shop I asked Brooke to work her magic and now I'm the proud owner one of Brooke's re-salvaged apron bags. It's nice and big, perfect to drop off Sew Your Own orders around town.

In other bag goodness news I was pleasantly surprised to receive a bag of goodies from my regular cafe. Both Gab and Marg are heading off to Spain for their upcoming honeymoon and give me a little going on holidays gift. It is full of coffee beans, tea, spices and some delicious biscuits. I feel very spoilt this week.

If you haven't had a chance to peek at this week's theme, Dee's has posted her 'This is...' theme ready for Sunday.

My work day was broken up today by a visit to the park with a friend's 4 year old. She is the most amazing little girl and she makes me smile with her clever conversation. Here is a snippet of what we spoke about today...

A - So what do you think you would like for dinner tonight?
4 - Calamari.

4 - Angela did you know I'm good at Everything!
A - Wow good at everything are you sure?
4 - YES!
A - Well are you good at making vegemite toast?
4 - Yes and I'm very good at rescuing burnt toast.

I'm excited about The Week of Pillowcases hosted by Kootoyoo's Kirsty over at Mikes this week. I've always loved this photo I found in a back issue of Frankie magazine. I'm always looking out for such pretty vintage pillowcases when I'm scouring the op shops but I've never found them. One day it will happen! and you will be the first to know about it : )

this is... my perfect dinner party

For light music entertainment I would invite the very smooth guys from The Flight of the Conchords followed by a couple of hostesses with the mostess, Mrs Kath Day-Night & her delightful daughter Kimmy.

And ofcourse we would need a couple of Laddeeess from Little Britian.

Thank you Lily and Agathe for this weeks theme!

tidy up

I've just spent the last two days purging and tidying my studio/office/front room. Ironically though I can't see any noticeable dent!

The cute owl fabric pictured is from this talented lady here.

on my desk

Today's desk is the ever so functional dinning table. I do all my sewing from the dinning table as there is much more light and space to sprawl out on. Thank goodness for patient partners!

On my work station today is

A gorgeous photo & article of Miss Pip from Meet me at Mikes in yesterday's Herald Sun.
Baboshka dolls counted cross stitch kit from DMC.
Cute trim from superbuzzy.
Nice new fabrics from Amitie Textiles, of which I made a doll for a friend.
Free to download bookplates from the very generous Emily from Inside A Black Apple.
Heart trim from Clegs.
Stork scissors, heart buttons, mobile phone and a screwdriver.

For more on my desk-ness pop over to Kirsty's blog to see who else is playing! You can join too! And for a sneak peek into this weeks This is theme pop over to Lily and Agathe. It's another good one!

matryoshka

I made my way down to the maker's market this morning and found a gorgeous little Matryoshka doll for $12, I added $2 to nanna's $10 and was very happy with my little purchase!

I also discovered these cute Matryoshka paper nesting dolls on etsy. They come in a PDF and are ready for printing & making yourself. I can't wait to assemble them to use as little gift boxes.

Tomorrow's 'this is my knick knack/jewellery box' theme has been inspired by Anastasia's post 'A box of one's own'. She has described her Grandmother's knick knack box beautifully.

See you Sunday!

on my desk

Office politics doesn't stop even when you are working from home. The moment I turn my back Audrey has decided to muscle in on my job. I kid you not I was just outside cleaning up due to our expected cyclonic winds and what should I walk in on, yes the cat checking on my emails. What next!

Miss Audrey CEO to SYO.

You can have a peek at some other desks over here!

beautiful day

I'm so overwhelmed by all my Birthday Wishes. Thank you : ) **blush**

I started my birthday by visiting Made Cafe for a morning coffee. Margie surprised me with a big Happy Birthday when I walked in the door and surprised me again with a Portuguese Tart with my coffee. I was very spoilt and even more so when I noticed the cuckoo clock teaspoon! A coffee definitely tastes better when stirred with a cuckoo clock teaspoon. As I went to pay with my Nanna's money Margie insisted it was her treat. : ) She is such a sweetheart.

Next I was off to visit another sweetheart in the city for coffee (more(!) & cupcakes.

Victoria is so sweet she gave me a pair of her very cool earrings! and some homemade banana cake, which I may add was beautifully and skillfully packaged. Thank You Victoria!!

She took me to the most cutest cafe in the city with dangling chairs from the ceiling.

And while I was taking a photo of Victoria's very cool get-around-town bag, she quickly paid for our treats and insisted it was her shout.

As you can imagine it was the most beautiful day!!

With Nanna's $10 still in my purse I think will buy a little something from the Maribyrnong Makers Market this Saturday.

it's my birthday

Thirty-seven years ago I was born on April Fools Day. The only setback I have found sharing my birthday on April Fools day is that I have to give atleast a weeks notice to friends about my upcoming day otherwise they think I'm joking! But it is true it tis my Birthday : )

So with $10 Nanna sent to buy myself some cake, I'm heading out to photograph my day on how my $10 gets spent. Watch this space...

Did you know that I'm hosting A Week of Cute over at Pip's blog!
