this is... my best op shop find

I am an avid op shopper. I have been since I was a young adolescent. I love it! I've tried to cut back this year as there is only so much my house can store but I just can't help myself. If I see an op shop my body just kicks into auto pilot and before you know it I'm browsing the knick knack shelf.

There have been so many best op shop finds through out the years it's hard to pick just one for today's theme. I have decided my best find in the last couple of years has been my little ceramic cats. I nearly walked straight pass them, unnoticed. The reason why they are a winner is that I had only just decided the day before that I wanted to have some cute ceramic retro cats. They were $5 for the pair.

Thank you Lino Forest for your theme! For next I would love to ask Teacups on treetops.

flashback friday

I think it's time to bring back Flashback Friday but in a different way. The only rule is you post a Flashback on Friday. Unfortunately I won't be able to keep a blog roll but if you would like to leave a comment we could come to visit and see you in your pigtails.

We have a Flashback Friday flickr group you may also like to join.

I choose my Flashback Friday photo today for my friend Sarah. It's her birthday today and she is from New Zealand. Happy Birthday New Zealand friend!

P.S. (I'm the one in the center)

Taking another leaf from Kirsty's book, I have created a 'This Is' badge for our little meme. If you would like to use the 'This Is' badge on your blog simply copy and paste the code below into your sidebar.

<a href="http://threebuttons.blogspot.com/"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3245/2609637523_65a82a5da5.jpg?v=0"/></a>

We have new players joining 'This Is' every day and there is plenty of room for more to join!! Just leave a comment and I'll add you to our ever growing blog roll.

Have you ever seen the sweet writtings Pip left for some wall taggers? Very sweet!! And I love the little OK reply.

on my desk

Inspired by the creative hostess of 'on my desk' I have kept an eye open for vintage pillowcases along my op shop travels. I haven't found it easy to spot them but my luck changed on Saturday when I found a large stash all neatly folded in a pile at my local op shop.

I've almost forgotten again our theme for this week. For this weeks 'This Is' I would like to ask Lino Forest to suggest our theme!

this is...

this is... my most favourite outfit that expresses my individual style. (Worn by a lovely model and not me, I can be a little camera shy). This cute little ensemble is from the Genki label. I'm a big fan of the Genki label as we share the same love of the yoke, peter pan collars and A-Line skirts. And I do believe their collection is not at all ageist.

I love buying and supporting local Australian and NZ designers when money permits. I once undertook a pattern making course with the intention of being able to whip up my own such cute designs to only leave being frustrated and better educated as to why one pays the money one does on such a sweet luxury.

Other local labels I admire are Lover, Gorman, Lush and Debra Sweeny.

P.S. (I do think the above white dress would be a cute summer garden wedding dress)!

P.P.S (Don't worry Miss Kitty Kaboodle, I know the feeling of having a hundred and one things to do at once, you are right tackle one thing at a time and you will get through it. Thank you for our theme this week)!

dear frankie

I know it's rather naughty of me as it was only yesterday that I applied for another job with another magazine. But! I thought that I could share my time between the two of you. Please may I come to work on your magazine?

I could hunt vintage treasures at car boot sales for you, I could learn to crochet and make you a lovely granny square throw for your next photo shoot and I can even make your staff a lovely pot of tea, with pink lamingtons of course!

Anxiously waiting your reply.

dear donna

I popped across the road this afternoon in search of a large casserole dish from my local op shop. Unfortunately I lucked out on the casserole dish but alas I discovered a pile of 17 back issues of Donna Hay magazines in very good condition! The seventeen magazines ended up costing the same price as one current issue. I couldn't walk out the door with out them. I also found a stash of cutlery that also made it's way home with me.

Oh Miss Hay, if you happen to read my blog can I please come and work for your magazine? I promise I will be good, I can test food, I can help your amazing stylists and I can carry your photographers camera bags and learn all their tricks of the trade!

this is... the space in which i create

Described in two words 'Organised Chaos'! My front room/spare room/studio is not very big. Every conceivable nook and cranny is utilised to accommodate for my growing business. My creative space sprawls out onto the dinning room table on most days. Does the lack of space drive me mad? Absolutely!

Thank you Michelle for encouraging us to uncover our creative spaces. For this upcoming week I would like to invite Kitty's Kaboodle to suggest our theme.

P.S. (Sorry for my late post)!

the friday archives

Today's archived drawing is from a class outing to The Melbourne Royal Zoo back in 1999.

This poor guy was being laughed at and teased by a group of school boys. He looked so sad and affected by all the taunting. I sat and tried to capture his sadness in the amount of time I could. Poor little one! Every time I look at this drawing it just brings back the feelings I felt for him.

I spied a heart on my lunch plate today!

I must have my heart shape radar on from all the post it notes on my desk right now.

A practical guide to the fulfilment of your dreams wouldn't be complete without a chapter on The Law Of Karma.

Every action generates a force of energy that returns to us in like kind... what we sow is what we reap.

Sometimes I try to have Karma work for me. Case in point...

When I'm getting my tax accounts ready for the accountant I use heart post it notes and heart paper clips. If I love my tax, my tax will love me! It's Karma!

Thank you Kirsty for your On My Desk-ness!

time for a holiday

My good friend who manages Byron Central Apartments has kindly suggested that if you would like to come and stay at their holiday apartments in Bryon Bay he will take 10% off the advertised price shown on their website.

Just let them know I sent you and they will look after you! : )

Thank you for your generous offer Scott!!

giving

Chapter two of 'A practical guide to the fulfilment of your dreams' discusses The Law of Giving. It reads...

The universe operates through dynamic exchange... giving and receiving are different aspects of the flow of energy in the universe. And in our willingness to give that which we seek, we keep the abundance of the universe circulating in our lives.

Case in point... (you may need a cup of tea for this long post)

When I was thinking up how to make a lovely sausage dog pencil case for Brooke I remembered her love of gingham and I thought of making a button with brown gingham for her pencil case. After a frustrated unsuccessful search for brown gingham I thought of an alternative and came up with a sausage dog button. Problem solved.

Then last week when I was attending Brown Owls, Kirsty the most giving person I know gave me a gift. Inside was a vintage apron and some brown gingham!

The next day Made Cafe was starting to create their new window display. Margie mentioned to me that she needed a small picnic rug for the display. I offered to lend her my new brown gingham which worked beautifully in the display.

On my way to Made Cafe this morning I dropped into a friends house to give her little girl a pink horse I found at the local op shop, I know how much she loves horses and I couldn't resist! To my delight when I arrived at the cafe Margie gave me a present.

And to my amazement when I went to pay for my coffee someone had already paid it for me!!

It's true 'what goes around comes around'... I'm going to have something very special to give to Kirsty next time I see her!

name this

Name This is a website that allows you to participate in some namestorming to earn yourself some extra cash.

Here’s how it works:

1. Someone posts a product or service in need of a name.

2. Members go to work, suggesting names and/or investing points in their favorites.

3. After 48 hours of namestorming, the system does some fancy math and crowns the winners.

I think I'm going to join, sounds like fun!

i love to sew

Here is one of my finished projects from my one on one time with the sewing machine last night. It's a birthday gift for you would never guess who!

this is... my favourite travel memory

My most favoured and most travelled destination is beautiful Byron Bay. I am fortunate enough to have some dear and life changing friends living in Bryon so it's a little coastal town I always find on the top of my travel list.

I was given the opportunity not too many years ago to live and work in Byron Bay at the Byron Central Apartments for a small time. It was just a quick barefoot stroll to the main beach. It was a great time but unfortunately the lack of a decent fabric store lead me back to Melbourne...

Thank you Hila for your suggested trip down memory travelling lane!
