once you know... you can't go back

Once you know... you can't go back, started for me when my partner showed me the 'correct' way to hang shirts on the line. It then followed by reading in a Donna Hay magazine the 'correct' way of cutting an onion. Once I learn these little things I find it so hard to go back to doing it the 'wrong' way. Damn it!

So, if you are like me then I would highly suggest you not look at this!

this is... my sunday

Lots of sewing for me today on this cold wet Sunday! I love sewing in the colder months I find it helps fuel your creativity, as long as the heater is on all is good.

I can't wait to have a peek at everyone's This Is today, I can't even begin to imagine what topics have been posted. For next weeks theme I would like to ask Amelia for her suggestion.

Have a great Sunday!

japanese goodness discovered in melbourne

Brooke introduced me to this beautiful little Japanese cafe in Abbotsford. The interiors are beautiful and the food is amazing. It surely is a visual treat to visit!
Kappaya Japanese Soul Food Cafe 9419 6350 Wed-Sun 9-4pm

Discovered only on Friday was this amazing, straight out of a Japanese craft book clothing store called Toolz. The clothes are gorgeous and very sweet.

And of course there is the very beautiful Zakkaya store housing some very cool Japanese wares.

Take a peek here too for some more Japanese goodness. Thank you for the Japanese Craft Shop Flickr link Belinda!

meet and greet

Tomorrow I'll be meeting and greeting in my one-day-only mini recreated studio in the Kids in Berlin store. Please feel free to pop by and say hello, there are plenty of kits to assemble and button bags to be made! I'll be there from 2pm - 5pm and would welcome the opportunity to meet some local Melbournians and some out of town visitors too!

Kids in Berlin - 472 Victoria Street, North Melbourne. Not far from the Victoria Markets.

nannas and biddy bags

Today when I heard a techno mobile ring tone on the tram, I certainly wasn't expecting to see the lovely very elderly lady (80+) sitting in the front seat to be reaching into her bag to take her mobile phone call. It certainly gave me a warm smile! I do hope that when I get older I can keep up and embrace new technology the way she has. And I'm equally impressed by the lovely lady's from Biddy Bags who mix making a living from their well mastered crafts and selling online. You ladies rock!

this is... what makes me happy

Catching a glimpse of a smiling dog. Warm days, blue skies and relaxing holidays. And most surprisingly, receiving 'free' wasabi with my lunch time sushi rolls.

Yep, I'm easy to please.

Thank you Jacinta for your beautiful theme today! For next week I would like to suggest a 'free form' theme. Where by we post our own 'This Is' to a theme of our own choice! Kinda like a jumble This Is!!

this is... what gives me goosebumps

I grew up in the sun drenched tropics, where coconut trees swayed in the warm breeze and a faint aroma of Reef tanning oil lingered about in the hot air.

I was never really prepared for my big move down south where I was to experience a 'Winter'. A cold winter, not a snowing white winter but a stay-close-to-the-heater winter nonetheless. And although this year marks my 12th year of living in Melbourne I must say I have never fully come to embrace it's cold weather.

I have slowly learnt to appreciate the lifestyle changes and the beauty that comes with the colder months but if I had too choose between hot or cold, it would be hot!

So what gives me goosebumps? To this day cold weather... Brrrrr!!!

Thank you Juddie for your choice of themes today. For next weeks theme I would like to ask One Little Acorn for her suggestion.

calendar dates

Thursday 17th July
Design Demystified begins this week as part of the Melbourne International Design Festival. Myself along with three other Melbourne designers have been invited to recreate a snippet of our studio space in the window of Kids In Berlin.

Swing by if you get a chance and view the inspiration boards of Betty Jo, Anna Laura, Madz has Runaway and Sew Your Own.

Sunday 20th July
The Melbourne Design Market is on again this coming weekend and I am excited to report that Victoria Mason will be there selling her amazing jewellery!

Sunday 20th August
Craft Victoria will be hosting the 'Craft and design as a career' seminar again this August. After attending the seminar last year I would highly recommend marking this event in your calendar.

Guest speakers this year include Nicola Cerini, Ben Maxwell from Bamakko and Abigail Crompton from Third Drawer Down.

cross-stitch

Yesterday I visited my local doctor for a case of the common cold and to my surprise she had told me how she had been so inspired after looking at my website that she went and re-acquainted herself to her old cross-stitching project that she had started back in 1981!

Of course I couldn't leave without giving her the URL to Etsy.

Everyone talks to their doctor about their websites, right?

on my desk

Today I've cheated a little, well alot actually. This is what was on my desk last Wednesday! Truth be told I didn't see much of my desk today as I was out and about braving Melbourne's cold weather.

Along my travels today I came across some very cute height charts from Cocoon Couture. I've just spent the last ten minutes looking over their website and I must say I'm quite smitten by their squirrel bookends also.

Thank you Kirsty for the On My Desk love!

cushion cover

I think I would like this cushion on my couch.

This is...

This is... my most treasured childhood possession. Teddy has made a bit of a celebrity spot appearance on Three Buttons previously so you may have already met her. She doesn't mind coming out of the dark cupboards for an airing and a glamour photoshoot.

Teddy falls under my most treasured childhood possession category as she alone has survived the what feels like 40 house moves in my lifetime (Most of these moves were during my twenties when I did the share house shuffle). Teddy and I have shared a history, we did alot together, she's my rock.

Thank you Danielle for reacquainting me with teddy again. I'm going to ask Juddie from Flightless Boyds for next weeks theme.

I wish I was brave enough to patchwork my walls with vintage wallpapers! The courageous and talented woman behind this masterpiece also keeps a blog brimming with visual treats. Why not pour a cup of tea and go sneak a peek.

studio view

This week I arranged to meet up with a friend for a fabric showing at her studio. Every time I visit her amazing studio it takes my breath away. From the beauty of her delicate design to the rustic studio spaces which were once old horse stables tucked away in Fitzroy. It's such an inspiring space!
