hello sailor

Hello, I'm back! There were some unexpected busy couple of weeks there that stole my blogging time, that coupled with a recent lull in creative energy I have guiltily neglected poor little Three Buttons. I hope this week I can get back into the swing of things and drop by to say hello a little more often!

Let me start my blogging week by telling you about my sailor boy ceramic. Last year the super lovely Pip from Meet me at Mikes gave me my now favourite money box, a ceramic 'made in japan' sailor boy. Too precious to put money into ofcourse! Having always wondered it's design origin I was surprised to find, just last week, the exact money box in a much loved book.

What I discovered was that the sailor boy was designed by Rune Naito, a 1960's Japanese illustrator. This left me to wonder where in Pip's vintage travels did she find such a treasure? I always venture to flea markets, op shops and garage sales with daydreamed expectations to find such beauties but most times I leave empty handed and disappointed. How about you? What is your ultimate and most daydreamed op shop, market, garage sale find?

I've always wanted to find that $5 Blythe doll at a garage sale, you know the one? The one who's friend knows a friend who found one once, for $2 in perfect condition.

Hi Angela, I recently found a beautiful Hermes scarf at Camberwell Market. It was a surprise when I got home with it and then noticed the label. It was a perfect gift for a dear friend's birthday. She loved it.
It was just in a case with a million other scarves. There is treasure everywhere, you just need to look.

Hi Angela! Well I've missed you!
Yes I've had that dream, not for a blyth doll, but a really really old bear. Or a pair of those hugging bear salt and pepper shakers.
I've always found the days I go op shopping and not expect much, or think I won't find anything they are the times I have the best luck. When I go in, thinking I must get that thing, I never find anything.

Oh he's gorgeous! What a lovely gift. My bestest find was probably the 'Homemaker' plates I blogged about a week ago... but yes, usually I am wondering too why all these amazing finds never seem to be where I look! ;) That's life I guess. Have a great week. K

Lovely! i collect Rune ornaments and stationary and have some books too. Over various trips to japan I have built it up through vintage stores in daikanyama, shimokitazawa and Nakano (more pricey but they always have lots of the rad vintage rune stuff). I even found one of my pieces in a opshop at the goldcoast!
