crocheted or knitted?

I'm relatively new to both camps, so I'm left to intrigue if the lampshades found at Seven Seeds cafe have been crocheted or knitted? Either way, I imagine big needles or hooks were involved!

Do you reckon they're fire safe. I have a thing about house fires and things being fire safe. Those labels on PJs that say fire retardant, I buy based on those.

Hmm, yes I wondered myself about it being fire safe. I had a near misshaped experience with a self-made lamp cover once!

Yes, good point Katiecrackernuts!

oh too funny, i was just in melbourne a few weeks ago and asked my totally non-knitting/crocheting husband the same question while we had lunch! he looked at me as though i was insane...but flattered me just the same, and guessed crochet.

I don't mind which - I just think they are an excellent excuse for more household knit/crochet wear!

i think that they are knitted (and wonderful).

I was there a few weeks ago and wondered exactly that! I think I decided they were knitted! I love them!

PS If they've used wool, it's fire safe!!

I knit. But to me they look crocheted. Who knows. If they are using florescent bulbs they should have any fire problems. Florescent bulbs don't give off heat.

definitely knit... the stitches are just stretched out.

The ribs look knitted but the way the stitches are stretched out it resembles crochet. Interesting conversation piece at the very least! Someone did a lot of work :)

great post!! we are not going to agree!
and this conversations is turning to be really technical, talking about the risk of fire... hahaha

i don't knit but i think it's crochetet and i love them too.

adding to the Knit Vote...fire safety...I used to make lots of knitted lampshades, none ever burned, I even did research to see if I'd be liable if I sold them and they burned. The word is, the consumer is responsible for their lampshade, no matter who made it! never did venture into lampshade commerce though

Thank you for all your comments, I think I've been convinced they are knitted.

Hi Angela.
Just a quick comment.
I wonder if they were Macrame?
My BIL used to do that and he has a lamp shade that looks just like those ones.
