why is it so
Why is it that when you create in your mind the perfect sewing project with a clear idea of the colour and fabric you want to use that it becomes near to impossible to actually find what you are looking for? It must work on the same notion that the book you read is better than the movie. Your imagination has worked up this amazing finished project that then the reality of finding the exact colours and fabrics that mirrors your ideal picture becomes an ongoing frustrated search.
My fabric search today was simple enough - 'brown gingham'. Apparently brown gingham is hard to come by in this here neck of the woods!
Grrrr!!
And don't even get me started on cupcake liners... although I do remember Emily recently posted a link of a great online shop for all your cupcake liner needs. I wish I had known about that online shop before I went in search of 'brown cupcake' liners last christmas.
It would appear that little old Brown is a little underrated these days. Brown should be the new black!

P.S. I had a hard time finding brown gingham on flickr too!

Good luck on your hunt! I'll keep my eyes out for some here for you.
Brown is most definitely underrated! It's one of my favourite colours, and now I'm desperate for you to find the right gingham and make your inspired project, because I can't wait to see what it is!
I love brown too! I just bought some brown gingham here in Norway, but I guess that doesn't help you very much. (far, far away)
Is this the right colour?

brown cupcake cases- try the cake decorating shop in port philip arcade, they used to have them
brown gingham- wholesale try AAA Fabrics, they, also, used to have it
Oh Angela....
I saw some brown gingham at spotty two weeks ago. I did have to pull out most of the bolts to find it too.
So my suggestion is spotty south melbourne!!
xoxx
How odd - they nearly always have brown gingham at spotty in Ballarat - how much do you need? I have some small pieces here.
Ax
It's always the way, isn't it? Hope you find what you are after soon!
Hi Angela! Found some brown gingham at spotlight in box hill last week - the big squares and the little squares. You do have to rummage (apparently blue, pink and green gingham is all the rage in the east), but it was there a week ago! Good luck xo
I've got some brown gingham too - the small-square kind. Would love to send you a metre or so if it doesn't turn up in your searches. Got mine at spotty too :-)
Yep you'll definitely find brown Ginham at Spotlight - Idid a couple of weeks ago!
Oh and have you tried the cake decorating shop in the arcade at the end of Scotts Lane in the city? Scott's Lane runs between Flinders Lane and St just near Journal. That place has heaps of great cupcake liners - and loads of those gorgeous sugar flowers that are way better than the supermarket ones and way cheaper than the ones in the fancy pants homewear shops.
I found brown Gingham at spotlight today too. A huge bolt of it, about the same size check as the one in your pic. Bit of a hike tho- it's out in Mill Park.
Poor brown - it always gets the rough end of the stick when it comes to visual merchandising. Next to the showy colours it seems so drab - but for those whose palettes have been cleansed of the tizz, brown is awesome. And I am yet to find a colour it clashes with.
I bet you'd be glad that you didn't order the cupcake liners for Christmas - searching their site, International Shipping is a Minimum US$40!!!
OOH I just found brown gingham vintage plates on trademe.co.nz - type in 'crown lynn' and 4th one down - bingo!
