Today Luka and I made my "world famous" cheesecake. We used chocolate tiny teddies for the base and Luka had the task of licking the beater clean. Once a job assigned to me pre-child but I guess there are some things one must give up.

* It's only world famous because it makes it sound mighty impressive when I say I'll bring my "world famous" cheesecake to gatherings.

Okay! I've been thinking about how I can try and get myself motivated again and how I can get some sort of creativity back into my every day. Given my days are kept busy chasing after a cheeky little toddler I thought the easiest way to inspire my creative mojo is to have a small goal of posting three photos everyday of my everyday. Luka is now a walking, very active toddler. He loves the park, ducks and planes. He doesn't like clowns or elderly ladies with a head full of grey hair. This sometimes makes visiting op shops a little difficult... and eventful.

We've been talking to architects lately, we are out growing our house and we are exploring our options. I have been spending my time flicking through house magazines and compiling visual diaries for inspiration. The task of building a house from scratch seems soooo daunting and overwhelming it feels best to take it step by step to help make the whole idea more digestible.

I finally had the opportunity to gift a tomato plant I planted in a tomato tin for a housewarming. Genius, I know! You'll never guess what I have planned for this olive tin. I just need to wait for another housewarming.

the colours of autumn

Autumn is by far my most favourite time of year. The colours and hues inspire me to create, read and contemplate. I must say I am feeling very creatively frustrated this year, my little active Luka allows little time for myself. We do get out for short walks that allows me to soak up all those beautiful colours.

I did steal some time to make a yummy pumpkin and chickpea salad for lunch, I found the recipe here. And I did finish my bootie... photos to come!

I'm determined to get my craft on after having had a very long hiatus from anything handmade. The time has come where things feel settled enough to afford me the time to work towards a project. So after spotting some very cute knitted baby socks made by Evie of Handmade Romance, I followed her links to find the pattern over at The Purl Bee.

Now, my knitting repertoire is limited consisting of simple scarfs and a few beanies so I'm setting myself a challenge here. With the help of Youtube, I'm going to try to make these booties for Luka. I did attempt to make some socks a couple of weeks ago, without much success but it's warmed me up. So mark my words this project will be attempted. It may not work or maybe it will. I'll show you my progress along the way.

A big thank you to all the lovely birthday wishes. I can't believe a week has already past. In that time Luka has sprouted two bottom teeth, which has meant an unhappy bubba.

Luka is now eight months old, he's mastering the art of crawling backwards and outright protesting to go into his pram. He is a cheeky monkey and his smile lights the room. It's hard to believe that he will be one in four months time.

I've been keeping my eye on some old drawers abandoned on the verandah of a house at the end of our street for sometime now. It was the drawer liners that drew my attention. Today good timing had me walk past as the owners were arriving home so I quickly summonsed up the courage to ask if I could have the drawer liners if they were not wanting them. The deal was I should take the drawers too, so now I'm the lucky owner of two floral draw liners... and two odd drawers.

And how impressive is the local waitresses hair today, I asked her how she managed to do such a neat job and she told me she spent many years as a ballerina. And that was my Sunday...

Last year when in Tokyo, I took the above photo inside Yokocho Gallery.

The ceramic artist of the work above had heard of my blog via the gallery owner and then contacted me to ask if she could use the photo for her name card.

Ofcourse I was only too happy to supply Yuko the image to use, infact I was a little flattered.

As a thank you for supplying Yuko with the hi res image she had sent me parcel with three very sweet ceramic buttons.

Earlier this year I was fortunate enough to be asked if I would like to have a little peak into the making of Pip's 'Sew La Tea Do' book. On my way to the studio I asked Pip if there was anything that I could bring, to which she asked if I had some spare buttons. One of those buttons I took along that day was the ceramic polar bear button gifted to me by Yuko, so from Tokyo to Melbourne to page 115 that is the tale of the polar bear button.

Last week I went along to the North Melbourne Market and found a stall holder who sold vintage fabrics from the 1920's right up to the 70's. She sourced all her fabrics from the US and makes frequent trips to find more, she doesn't have a website and she doesn't do alot of markets so I'm so lucky I found her. I do have her email address and I'll let you know next time she sets up market shop.

With my pieces of vintage fabric I hope to make something from Pip's new book and I hope to add some of my Japanese gingham bias to the finished garment. Fingers crossed I find some time to get it started.

I've also been visiting a new cafe in the local area and I bought myself some new comfy red shoes, I found them at Target so they are nice and cheap too!

I would have to say that all the comments left on my Luka's settling post was just about true. Just when I thought Luka had settled he did the complete opposite and became quiet distressingly unsettled, distressing in the fact that I didn't know what was wrong with my little man!

Off I went and made a quick call to the Maternal and Child helpline whereby I was politely and gently told Luka is just being a baby and infact he was at the age when crying would start with avengence. Thankfully someone at my mothers group recommended the Frances Perry Day Stay programme where I was able to learn some great tips on settling. The programme introduces the use of the Sounds of Silence CD, which can sound a little demonic but it's the white noise that mimics the sound of the womb so works a treat on settling. We also watched the DVD The Happiest Baby on the Block which shows some great settling techniques.

After seeing Luka sleep soundly throughout the day while at my day stay I was certainly not going to argue that these things didn't work and enthusiastically went home to try them out myself. I'm pleased to say that they have been working a treat... with some narly bits during arsenic hour but we're working on that.

I best not say anymore incase it all goes out the window next week!

I can't wait until things settle a little around here and I can blow the cobwebs of my sewing machine. I was hoping to give it an airing during my four weeks off before Luka's arrival but I guess he was too keen to enter the world and not much fussed about having a nice, bright nursery room all to himself.

It does feel like things are feeling a little less overwhelming now with Luka entering into his 9th week, I have been told by several mothers that 10 weeks is THE week when everything just seems to run so much smoother. Have you had this experience? Would you agree that 10 - 11 weeks is like a magic number in which little bubs settles a little and the house returns to a somewhat normal state again?

Did you know it's that time of year again that Pip puts the call out for everyone to take part in Softies For Mirabel, maybe that could be my goal to get me back into the making, creating swing of things.

My new life as a new Mum has been sleepy, rewarding, challenging and all encompassing. What one would expect really. Luka now rewards us with big gummy smiles and baby coo's, it's all sooo cute!! He gave Daddy lots of little treats for Father's Day... pooey nappies... lucky Daddy.

I'm amazed everyday how local shop keepers and even strangers in the community all want help or love to say hi to Luka, it feels great to be part of such a great community. Just the other day I walked past a big burly council worker working away with his leaf blower, I needed to walk past him and I was hoping he would spot us and let us through. Thankfully he did and as we walked past he asked in a very clucky voice "How old?" when I told him he give a big sweet smile and said "Aww, brings a tear to me eye seeing 'em so little. Reminds me when my little girls were that young, gee they grown up fast ya know".

Luka is now close to six weeks and a big 4 kilos, the weight of a bag of navel oranges as the local fruiter tells me : )

Thank you for all Luka's well wishes. He has been so amazing and sleeping 3hrs between feeds and today the maternal nurse suggested letting him sleep 4 hrs overnight. Woohoo! Let's see how that goes!

I must say, since Luka's unexpected arrival it has been a comedy of errors around here since day one. It was only one week into my four weeks off work that Luka arrived. It was only three days prior to his arrival that the baby furniture and more importantly the car seat arrived.

Poor Frank was left running around the day after his birth trying to get the car seat fitted. We were planning on buying a new car but for now we are getting around in our two door beetle with the front seat rendered useless as I can't fit with the car seat taking up the room in the back. So for now I'm being chauffeured around in the back seat. But I must say I do like saying, shall we put the baby in the bugaboo in the beeeaaatle!

Hello!!!! I think it's been close to a month since I last posted. Life just seems unbearably busy with work commitments, prenatal appointments, childbirth education classes and preparing for our little arrival in 5.5 weeks. I've always had a soft spot for candy stripes so obviously I feel in love when I discovered these online tonight. You can find the stripey bags from here and stripey straws from here. I discovered the stripey straws from a very beautiful foodie photography blog called What Kate Ate, Kate is not only an amazing photographer but her styling is just as beautiful.

And on the subject of online discoveries, I also spotted these amazing chocolate pencils. I don't think they would last long in my pencil case!

When I've needed to catch the bus into work, I try to remember to take a birds eye view of my baby bump with my phone camera. I'll have to take some more bus rides over the next 10 weeks to chart my expanding progress.

This morning a parcel arrived in my mailbox, it was an order I placed yesterday from Upon a Fold's website. How pretty is the package! And I can highly recommend the Tokyo by Tokyo book that was inside.

If I could, I would do some baking, plant some herbs in terracotta pots, take my own photos again and search for fortuitous hearts. I would post more and tell you about how my little bump is going (growing), I would be nesting, I would be making, I would be busy preparing for my little ones arrival but instead I have been fending off cold, after cold, after cold, after cold.

I'm now recovering from cold number 4, the 4th in as little as a month and a half. And not just any fly by night cold, no a six day bedridden spectacular and after a ten day recovering period, I'm heading back out into the world and DANG, I'm struck again. And I always thought I was lucky to carry my pregnancy throughout the colder months as I would be saved from summer pregnancy symptoms but I'm not feeling so lucky anymore.

So for now I'm nursing my hot honey and lemon drink once more, nursing my exhausted body back to good health and slowly watching the final count down begin. Today I am 30 weeks, 10 more weeks to go!

iPhontography

I've only myself to blame for ignorantly believing that my iPhone camera wasn't a 'real' camera therefore you couldn't possibly take photography seriously from a phone camera but after discovering a new underground movement of iPhoneographanatic's I stand corrected!

Take Melbournian iPhone photographer Misho Baranovic for instance, the images above have all be taken from his iPhone and are without a doubt just as artistic and inspiringly beautiful as those taken from any SLR camera.

With this new awareness I think I will be taking my little phone camera a little more seriously and I will be keeping an open mind (and eye) when out and about in Melbourne in future.
